CALP (Cognitive Academic Language Proficiency) training is a project dedicated to developing a deep knowledge of academic language.
India has a lot of primary languages but parents prefer to send their children to English medium schools. This mismatch between primary and English language leads to a big problem. Students don’t understand the subject and start mugging the content. Students survive in primary classes but start facing difficulty in understanding the concepts in higher classes. CALP is an initiative to fill this gap.
CALP Training will help students in developing English Listening and reading skills. We develop English vocabulary of your child and train him/her to think in English. If the language being used in the school and home are different, then make sure that your child spends significant time on this website.
You can use CALP to improve various aspects of the English language like vocabulary, listening, reading, and thinking in English. Once these aspects start improving, the other skills like speaking and writing improves too. This would lead to expressing and articulating the ideas in a better way to others.
We suggest you to spend half hour on calp.training every day if you want to improve your English, especially if you are in a professional course or preparing for competition. If you are a novice in the English language, then we suggest that you start from grade 1 and go up to grade 10 to get a good command on English.
CALP is based on “A framework for scaffolding to teach programming to vernacular medium students” developed by Dr. Yogendra Pal. CALP website contains lots of videos which will benefit you to improve your English language skills. Each learning post contains a video and series of activities. These activities will keep you engaged through out the learning post, eventually spending more time with the English language, thus improving your English skills.
I dedicate this website to my guide Prof. Sridhar Iyer. Without his guidance, it was never possible to develop a framework that help students in achieving English proficiency. I would also like to thank Prof. Sahana Murthy and Prof Kinshuk for their support.
