Play it again: why children should hear a chapter three or four times

The videos for the primary classes (Class 1 to 5) are short, so they are easy to play again and again. That repetition is one of the most useful tools for teachers, parents and students.

On YouTube, turn on Loop in the player’s settings and the video plays again by itself until you turn it off.

Teachers in the classroom

The first skill in learning a language is listening, and CALP videos are made for it. They are colourful and the voice is slow, which helps students hear each word and build a picture of new words in their mind. Played on a projector or smart board, the whole class can watch together.

Play each video three or four times, as your lesson plan allows. Students get used to the sound of the story or poem and begin to understand it. Then move to the “repeat after me” version of the same chapter. The more they practise, the better their English becomes.

Parents and tutors

Give your child a phone or tablet with the video on loop. Hearing it again and again gives your child the chance to understand it. After that, play the “repeat after me” version of the same chapter.
