Watch: My Family
Play the video three or four times. The first time, just listen. Then point at the pictures, and from the third time, say the lines along with the video. Short, repeated listening is how CALP builds a child’s English.
What your child learns
- Introducing yourself: "I am …, I am … years old"
- Family words: parents, father, mother, sister
- Words for jobs: farmer, teacher
- Using "he" and "she" for people
What the lesson is about
Mohit is seven years old and studies in Class 2. He lives with his parents and his sister, Suguna. Suguna is six years old and studies in Class 1. The two children go to school together. Mohit’s father is a farmer who grows rice and vegetables and works very hard. His mother is a teacher who teaches small children.
Their house is neat and clean. Mohit’s father helps his mother, and together they cook good food for the family. After the children finish their homework, Mohit and Suguna play outside the house while their parents watch them. The lesson shows a happy family where everyone helps and cares for each other.

Talk about it
Ask these aloud after reading or watching. Let your child answer in English if they can, or mix in their home language. Both help.
- How old is Mohit, and in which class is he?
- What is the name of Mohit’s sister? How old is she?
- What work do Mohit’s father and mother do?
- Who lives in your family? How do you help at home?
Answers for parents
- Mohit is seven years old and he is in Class 2.
- Her name is Suguna. She is six years old.
- His father is a farmer who grows rice and vegetables. His mother is a teacher who teaches small children.
- For example: I live with my mother, father and little brother. I help by putting my toys away.
Grammar corner: Using "he" and "she"
We use "he" for a boy or a man and "she" for a girl or a woman. It saves us from saying the name again and again.
- Mohit has a little sister. She likes to play outside.
- The farmer gets up early. He goes to the farm.
- My grandmother tells stories. She is very kind.
Practice at home
- Fill in the blank: Suguna is in Class 1. ___ is six years old.
- Choose: My father is a farmer. (He / She) works on the farm.
- Say aloud about yourself: I am ___. I am ___ years old. I am in Class ___.
Answers: 1. She · 2. He · 3. For example: I am Riya. I am seven years old. I am in Class 2.
Try this
Ask your child to talk about their own family in Mohit’s way: “I am …, I am … years old, I am in Class …” and then say one line about each family member. They can also draw their family and point to each person while speaking.
Tip for parents
Ask about the family in Hindi first: "तुम्हारे घर में कौन-कौन है?" Then help your child say the same in English, the way Mohit does: "I live with my parents." Write the Hindi and English words side by side, like पिता = father and बहन = sister, and praise every sentence, even a mixed one.
